The St. John Choir is made up of 40-50 volunteers and professionals from all walks of life. In worship, they are drawn together by St. John's tradition of singing music which has theological and artistic integrity, whatever its style or age, whether written in the Renaissance or last year, whether in the classical or the folk tradition.

The choir sings for 11am services eleven months of the year. Their anthems and hymns for worship are selected to illuminate the lectionary-appointed scripture for the day. Concerts by the St. John Choir in recent years have included such major works as Bach's St. John Passion, Haydn's Creation, and the Requiems of Brahms, Faure, and Durufle. The choir has performed under the direction of many prominent conductors, including John Rutter, Joseph Flummerfelt, Ann Jones, Andre Thomas, Henry Leck, Eric Nelson and Bingham Vick. In the summer of 2001 they enjoyed a concert tour to Scotland and Northern England, and in 1997 they served as choir in residence at Westminster Abbey, along with a sister choir from Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Augusta.

An annual fall choir retreat provides time for intense rehearsals, intimate worship, and delightful fellowship. The choir's productions of Christmas 1798 are popular in the Augusta community. Two professionally produced recordings feature the choir's work. An informal audition is required for membership in the St. John Choir. Contact Jamie Garvey.

The St. John Junior Choir studies choral singing in the bel canto tradition, singing for worship at St. John 3-6 times per year. In rehearsals they enjoy Orff exercises and instruments, developing musical skills through movement and singing. An awards system motivates choristers, rewarding them for memory work, attendance, and other educational activities. Special projects include field trips to Augusta Symphony and opera performances and out-of-town choir festivals. An audition is not required. Contact Jamie to express your interest in joining us.

The St. John Wesley Choir welcomes all young children who enjoy music and movement. Choristers learn to develop a beautiful singing voice, to match pitch and to develop fundamental musical skills, including an introduction to the keyboard. Our non-performance-based curriculum, Kindermusik International's "ABC, Music and Me," offers an early childhood music and movement program that fosters an appreciation of music from many different cultures. Through singing, movement, instrument play, and story-telling, the child explores what a wonderful creation God has made in them and in the world around them!
