Plan a Visit

We look forward to meeting you!

Visiting a church for the first time is not always easy. To make your visit to St. John Church as comfortable as possible, we’ve answered some frequently asked questions about what you might expect when you arrive on a Sunday morning.

We are located at 736 Greene Street in Augusta, Georgia in a beautiful brick building that was constructed in 1844. There is parking in front of the church on Greene Street for Sunday services, but most of the parking for church activities is behind the church building off Telfair Street. There is a double door entrance with an awning in the fenced in parking lot.

If you parked on Greene Street, come in the double front doors to enter the sanctuary. There will be individuals there to greet you. If you parked behind in the parking lot off Telfair Street, come in the double doors under the awning and there will be someone there to help direct you to walk straight forward toward the sanctuary.

We want you to feel comfortable. For some that means Sunday best. For others, that means Saturday comfortable. And you may have plans after church that dictate what you need to wear that morning as well. We have some who will have just come from worshiping at our lake property. Whatever you wear, you will feel welcomed!

Bring them!

Children are welcome in worship! We have a children’s message during the service. We also have a nursery for children ages birth through age five that is located off the hall behind the sanctuary.

To learn more about our children and youth ministries, please visit our Get Connected page and follow the links provided there.

Only that you be yourself!

We will greet you warmly, but we will not overwhelm you. You will not be expected to stand up and introduce yourself of raise your hand and be recognized in the service. You will not be required to fill out a card so we can track you down later. However, if you want more information, to be added to our contact list, or if you need further conversation to answer any questions or to receive care, we will gladly take your contact information by filling out the cards in the pew racks or on our contact page.

Our 11:00 am traditional service takes place in our beautiful sanctuary located at 736 Greene Street that was built in 1844. The service and message follow the lectionary and our beautiful pipe organ accompanies us as we sing from hymnals.

You are invited to look at some of our previous worship videos here. While there is a children’s message during the service, a nursery for children ages 0-5 is available for the service and the children can be taken to the nursery following that special lesson for them.

Monitor yourself for fever, cough or shortness of breath before deciding to come to worship. If you have recently been sick or diagnosed with Covid-19, follow CDC guidelines for the recommended quarantine period. We offer livestream services.

  • Masks and touchless hand sanitizers are available as you enter and leave the building.
  • You will be greeted by ushers who can assist you if needed. You may sit where you feel comfortable, or you may sit with others at your discretion.
  • Please respect the comfort level of others and maintain social distancing between your family group and others in the building.
